The Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership, hosted by UNF Ottawa-Gatineau, is calling for youth and community leaders to attend leadership seminar

Inna ILIENKO, UNF O-G Secretary, for NP, Ottawa

The Ukrainian-Canadian community has become an important element of Canadian social, political and cultural life. To a large extent, it was achieved thanks to the coherence of its community members and effective leadership. Individual Ukrainians have attained some of the highest offices in the land, remaking Canada into a multicultural nation and promoting its values internationally. Still, in a constantly evolving environment the demand for effective community leaders and active community members is only growing. Active leaders have to adapt to the new changing reality, and learn new instruments to achieve their goals and to serve the community in a better way.

This year, Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership Training Seminar, organized by UNF Ottawa-Gatinea, will bring together experienced community leaders with various backgrounds, mentors with proven management experience, as well as active members of the Canadian-Ukrainian community to exchange ideas, to share knowledge and to network. The seminar will take place on October 20, 2018, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Days Inn (319 Rideau Street) in Ottawa.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OHdISn0J6Y”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership (PYI) was founded in 2009 by the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada (UNF) and the Ukrainian National Youth Federation of Canada (UNYF). The Paul Yuzyk Institute takes its inspiration from the life’s work of Senator Paul Yuzyk (1913- 1986), who as a Canadian Parliamentarian, academic, Ukrainian-Canadian community leader, and founder of the UNYF persevered through the economic hardship and ethnic discrimination of his youth to pioneer the official recognition in 1971 of Canada as a multicultural country. The goal of PYI for Youth Leadership is to train future generations of Ukrainian-Canadian community leaders.

2018 PYI for Youth Leadership Training Seminar is a unique educational and networking event for university students, young professionals and community leaders from across Canada. During the seminar the participants will be offered the opportunity to participate in discussions, presentations and networking, and they will learn about possibilities of involvement in the Canadian-Ukrainian community. Among the speakers are Ihor Michalchyshyn, CEO UCC National, and Paul Migus, who rose to the level of Assistant Deputy Minister in the Canadian Government and served two Cabinet Ministers of Multiculturalism. They will be covering the role of Canadian-Ukrainian Community organizations in Canada’s global and historical context. Larysa Rozumna, Vilyen Pidgornyy, Simon Sulyma and Roman Mlynko will provide practical advice and instruments of effective leadership in modern contexts. Andriy Semotiuk, US and Canadian Immigration Lawyer and Forbes Columnist, who is a keynote speaker of the event, will uncover the role of the leader in navigating change.

This year the Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership Training Seminar would not have been possible without generous sponsors: The UNF Foundation, The Ukrainian Credit Union Limited and the UNF Montreal branch, and Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership. Thanks to their contribution the participating youth representatives can enter into a scholarship draw.
