UNF Children’s Programming at the Toronto Branch soared this summer! Camp Sokil celebrated its 60th anniversary this year and many wonderful events and activities were held.
The season was launched after the first church service was held on Sunday July 7th. A procession led by camp counselors wound to the new kitchen building through Hawkestone. There, a special blessing service was held before the naming of the new kitchen building and opening first week of the camp season.
Ukrainian Credit Union Ltd. donated $100,000 towards capital improvements and was given the opportunity to name the new kitchen building. It was decided to name the building in honour of the late Michael Rebryk, board member of the Ukrainian Credit Union Ltd. and ardent supporter of the Children’s Camp. The Camp and the Rebryk Family were touched by the choice.
The season was a great success, with a sell out season and great activities such as professional animation classes, canoe instruction and an 8.5 km hike in Algonquin Park. The season was extremely memorable and has set the benchmark for years to come!
