Dianna Fedun, President UWOC-Toronto and Executive.

Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada – Toronto Branch would like to thank members and our supporters who donated items or financial contributions to our recent Zolochiv Drive 2021.

We had collected eight large boxes (53x60x43cm), which included winter coats and jackets, slacks, suits, sweaters, towels, along with personal hygiene items totalling 194.5 kilos. The boxes will be on their way to Ukraine – Lvivska Oblast. These items are received and distributed by Pani Donna Androshchuk, a volunteer with the Social Services in Lviv. Pani Androshchuk, who recently retired from nursing, itemizes what each pensioner receives. We are most grateful to have Pani Androshchuk at the other end who embodies all the qualities that is, Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada-Toronto Branch. When seniors are faced with either paying for rent or food it is heart warming to know we have helped them in this small way.

So how did we become involved ‘twinning’ with Zolochiv. Ukrainian Canadian Social Services here in Toronto approached our executive along with other Ukrainian organizations some 20 years ago. They were the ones who selected the places in Ukraine and Zolochiv became ours. We are not sure if the other organizations have continued sending parcels however, UWOC Toronto has continued with our obligation to help those in Ukraine. Anne Fedun and Donna Androshchuk are in communication with each other either by phone or emails.

We also placed copies of New Pathway – Ukrainian News newspapers for them to read about what is happening in Canada, Ukraine and in the world.

This venture would not have been possible without our members who graciously came out to sort, pack, and tape. Thank you to Anne Fedun, Katrusia Kohut and Uliana Yaworsky. And to Irena Hlywa who offered her services and the use of her van to transport these boxes to MEEST.

Our heartfelt gratitude to all who made this event successful.
